A Technical Comparison of SAP HANA, Oracle, and SQL Server

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the technical and strategic differentials of the SAP HANA database, employed within the SAP S/4HANA system, in comparison with two major market competitors: Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server. The research adopted a qualitative approach with an exploratory and descriptive nature, based on a bibliographic survey conducted in recognized academic and technical repositories. The analysis considered aspects such as architecture, performance, scalability, data model, integration with analytical tools, and support for cloud computing. The results indicated that SAP HANA, by leveraging in-memory technology, outperforms traditional relational databases in terms of processing speed and real-time OLTP/OLAP integration, providing greater efficiency and analytical capability. The findings highlight that SAP S/4HANA represents a new paradigm in enterprise resource planning systems, aligned with the demands of digital transformation and the growing need for real-time business intelligence.
